“The Amityville Horror”The story of the Amityville horror has captured the imagination of horror enthusiasts for nearly four decades. On December 18, 1975, a young family moved into their new home. Twenty-eight days later, they fled in terror, leaving behind all their belongings.
The book details the frightening ordeal of George and Kathy Lutz and their three children after they moved into their home at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, N. Y. Jay Anson documented their unforgettable story of the hellish events which transpired in their new home. The same home where on November 13, 1974 had been the scene of a mass murder. Ronald DeFeo, 23, shot and killed his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. DeFeo was tried and found guilty and was convicted of six consecutive second-degree murders on November 21, 1975. The hair-raising events began on the day of the family's move into their home. A priest, invited to bless the home, was warned by an unseen voice to “Get Out.” The unexplained phenomena that followed created the most terrifying experience the Lutz family had ever encountered. George Lutz said, “That because of the psychic phenomena which he could not describe and his concern for their personal safety he and his family would not spend another night in the house.” Over the years there has been controversy over the events that transpired as told by the Lutzes'. When the Lutzes' first went public with their experiences at 112 Ocean Avenue, they created a sensation which was then followed by numerous books, television and motion picture spin-offs of “The Amityville Horror.” The Lutzes' experience at the time was unique. Nowadays, hardly a day goes by when there isn't a television, movie or book published detailing the psychic and paranormal phenomena experienced by ordinary families everywhere. Many of these present day case histories are eerily similar to the events which occurred to the Lutz family so many years ago. |
